The Cottage

1. How many guests can sleep at High Tide Cottage?

The Cottage sleeps ten. Of the three bedrooms, one has a king bed, the second has a queen bed and the third bedroom has a king bed and a sofa bed. The bungalow in the courtyard has two single beds.

2. What is provided in the kitchen?

The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, coffee maker, coffee urn, regular coffee, decaf coffee, three sweeteners, spices, wine glasses, aluminum foil, plastic baggies, plastic wrap, paper napkins, paper towels and dishwasher soap.

3. How many bathrooms do you have?

Two.

4. What is provided in the bathrooms?

Toilet tissue, bath towels, hair dryer, Private Islands of Georgia soap, shampoo and body wash.

5. Do you have wireless internet and TV?

Yes, we have wireless internet and two TVs.

6. Do you allow pets?

Yes, we are pet friendly. We have a large fenced yard that surrounds the cottage and courtyard for your enjoyment. There is a $50 non-refundable pet fee for the first pet, and $25 for each additional pet.

7. Do you charge a cleaning fee?

Yes, there is a $60 cleaning fee for 7 guests or less, and $75 for 8 guests or more. You will find that High Tide Cottage is very clean and well-maintained.

8. Do you have a grill?

Yes, we have a charcoal grill, and we provide the charcoal. We also have a low country boil cookpot with its stand, and we provide the propane for that. We also have oyster knives.

Location

1. Where are you located?

We are located on Screven Street one block from the Darien River and Skippers’ Fish Camp and next door to Broad Street. One of the best vacation rental locations in Darien, you may walk out your front door to the Waterfront Wine Shop, enjoy live music at the Waterfront Wine Bar and pick up a unique gift for a friend at the nearby Shops at 107 Broad.

Restaurants

1. Can you tell me some good places to eat?

~ Skippers’ Fish Camp – located at your doorstep. Great seafood and oyster bar.

~ Que Pasa Grill & Cantina – located directly across the street from High Tide Cottage. This restaurant serves authentic Mexican fare, and has some of the best salsa around! Try The Bluberrita (blue margarita)!

~ The Darien River House Restaurant & Wine Bar – Chef Eric will prepare you a great coastal dinner in a quiet setting. Enjoy a good glass of wine.

~ B & J’s Steaks & Seafood – located several blocks from High Tide Cottage. While I recommend B & J’s anytime, it is a great place to have breakfast.

~ Mudcat Charlie’s – located at Two Way Fish Camp about 4 miles south on Highway 17. Enjoy great seafood on the Altamaha River.

~Visit St. Simons Island for a wide variety of great restaurants only 30 minutes from High Tide Cottage.

Activities

1. Beaches – Where are the beaches?

You can enjoy the beach at two nearby locations – St. Simons Island located 30 minutes south, and Jekyll Island, located 40 minutes south of High Tide Cottage. You will enjoy the slow pace Darien offers after returning from the crowds of St. Simons Island. The close proximity of High Tide Cottage to both St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island gives you the best of both worlds.

2. Boating – Can I bring my own boat?

Yes, and we encourage you to do so. We are located next to the Darien River. You can launch your boat just outside the front door at the boat ramp located at Skippers’ Fish Camp. You can keep your boat on your trailer each night beside the cottage, or dock your boat at the marina after completing a Berthing Agreement which we can provide for you. There is a small fee for dockage. You can boat down the Darien River to the intracoastal waterway out to Doboy Sound and Sapelo Island. You will love the outdoor adventure that the location of High Tide Cottage offers for boating, fishing or kayaking the waterways.

3. Kayaking – Do you have a kayak for guests to use?

Yes, we provide a tandem kayak for your use while a guest at High Tide Cottage. Additional kayaks can be rented–just ask.

4. Bikes – Do you provide bikes?

Yes, we have four beach cruisers for you to enjoy while staying with us at High Tide Cottage.

5. What are some nearby places of interest?

A) Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge – take your camera and enjoy over 2,500 acres of wildlife on trails and roads while exploring the great outdoors.

B) Fort King George – take a tour of this historical fort which is located a short bike ride from High Tide Cottage.

C) Savannah – the historic city of Savannah is only 60 minutes away.

D) St. Simons Island – beaches/food/shopping – located 30 minutes away.

E) Jekyll Island – Summer Waves Water Park/beaches/historic district/The Georgia Sea Turtle Center – located 40 minutes away.

Current Weather Conditions

2. Will we get a refund if we have a hurricane?

Yes. If we are asked to evacuate the area, you will receive a refund. However, inclement weather does not qualify you for a refund.

Check-In and Check-Out

1. When can I check in and when do I have to check out?

Our Five-Moon policy allows you to check in and out as early or late as you wish, provided another guest is not checking in or out on the same day as you. Standard times are 4 p.m. check-in and 11 a.m. check-out.

2. What if I leave something behind?

As soon as you realize you left something behind (besides some great memories), get in touch with us. We will notify the cleaning crew so that they can locate the item(s) for you. We will box it up and ship it to you for the cost of shipping + a $10 handling fee. We will give you an estimate so you can approve the cost prior to shipping.

Cancellation Policy

1. What if our plans change and we have to cancel our trip. Will you refund our deposit?

All cancellations must be in writing. To qualify for a refund, a cancellation notice must be received a minimum of 30 days prior to your check-in date. Upon receipt of written notification, a 10% administrative fee will be deducted and the balance of your deposit will be refunded. No refunds will be made with less than a 30-day notice.
